There are URM buildings housing humans in OC that has zero mitigation according to the state report. Human habitats should have priority.

  • Annie Nanimoss

What…a…joke! What Supervisor Nelson is failing to tell the public is that this “potential site” was already vetted about 9-10 years ago during the reign of another OC Animal Care Director with the collaboration of staff and management. It was scrapped due to it’s location, surrounding schools and businesses, ingress and egress problems, noise abatement challenges that would affect the surrounding population, and oh yeah, traffic issues for the public and the surrounding community, etc., etc., etc., ad nauseam!
Good lord people! Nelson must really think the public and current OC Animal Care leadership are either stupid or have a bad enough memory as to fall for this half-hearted attempt to appear engaged. Well…, I can’t speak for the current Director of OC Animal Care. She just may be stupid…, but we’re not Supervisor Nelson. We have been paying attention and will continue to pay attention. How about earning your money and coming up with a NEW idea. One that hasn’t already circled the drain.

At the meeting this afternoon, 9/28, Spitzer made a motion to over rule the judges finding and direct OC Animal Care to find an alternate home for Karma. The motion did NOT PASS, none of the other 4 supervisors agreed with Spitzer. This is the way it has been with the Orange County Supervisors for the last 2 decades. They are cruel when it comes to animals. Alright so Spitzer wanted to save Karma, he wasn’t even successful for one animal. How about the 1000s of animals which have suffered over the years because of that Board. Orange county should be ashame.!!

  • gazoo

I bet the bos will still be studying this 20 years from now….. Any takers?

  • Bob Brock

Why build a new shelter? Shawn will just kill the pets that end up there, starting with Karma. So far, Todd Spitzer is the only County leader who has stood up for our four-legged friends. Nelson’s unwillingness to stand up for Karma is chilling and I don’t trust him to look out for the best interest of our pets.

    • gazoo

Bob….. There are more important things on sup nelson plate than some killer dog… Get over it….he was right not to get involved with the decision of a professional

      • Bob Brock

Killer dog? Really? He killed a cat. Give me a break. It’s ridiculous that he just assumes that because a government bureaucrat says something it is Gospel.

        • gazoo

I respect your response….dont agree but duly noted..

  • OCservant_Leader

    Note to Supervisor Nelson:

    You don’t need another report.

There are Binders & BINDERS detailing every feasible solution. How many “feasibility studies” has the County already paid “consultants/donors”?

Instead of waiting for a Donor to put together another scam to siphon more tax dollars.. Put the shelter on COUNTY LAND!

There are a 100 public work’s Engineers all ready on the payroll. (Well subtract political appointees- so there are maybe 30) but don’t WAIT To outsource this project!

    • octaxpayer

This is the way of BoS . When they want something to go away they start a feasibility study. This usually takes years cost TAX $$$ and nothing comes out of it.

  • LFOldTimer

One shelter won’t cut it. Orange is the only County in the State with a population of over 500,000 that has only one animal shelter. OC needs 3 shelters. A main one centrally located with 2 smaller ones in South County and North County. Otherwise the northern and southern contracted cities are going to dump OCAC and form their own agencies and build their own shelters. It’s time for Orange County to join the rest of the State of California and offer competent, convenient and customer-friendly (for both animals and humans) service. We’re living in the dark ages. OC is one of the richest counties in the State. Time to spend some money on an important service that’s been deliberately neglected for 40 years.

    • OCservant_Leader

“Deliberately Neglected” is an excellent term to explain – how a County this Large, this Rich and where the GOP has ruled for decades…cannot build ONE friggin animal shelter?

And you are right – they are behind 75 Years and now need a dozen.

The corruption and mismanagement is an outrage!

  • Cynthia Ward

    BTW-thank you Shawn.

  • Cynthia Ward

How about we put Nelson in charge of the animal shelter AND put him back in the lead for the human shelter, put BOTH on the Anaheim Way property Anaheim is about to sell off to their insiders at the Chamber, as we know that interaction with animals is a HUGE factor in helping humans fight off depression, and could benefit the homeless people as well as the homeless fur-kids.

    • OCservant_Leader

Brilliant Idea! The homeless could walk the dogs and help with the care and loving!

The OC Board of Supes Brand will go down in history as the wealthiest County and the most Corrupt!

    • LFOldTimer

I think dogs should be given a choice over who they spend their time with. I’ve always advocated that during the adoption process that the dogs (and cats) should be able to choose among a minimum of 3 potential human adopters. Let the dog spend a couple hours with each potential adopter and then make his own choice about who to spend his life with. It’s only fair. Afterall, this is America.

    • John Claxton

Yeah because he did so much in the TWO consecutive years as chairman on both of these issues! He had his chance – and did absutely ZERO.

  • Luis Noble-Perez

The shelter now is filthy and not maintain properly but at least the dogs have shelter but no shelters for the homeless or at least safe zones a park of their own. Sad and inhuman

    • LFOldTimer

Let’s contact the Pope and ask him to turn one of his OC churches into a homeless shelter. Oh wait. I forgot. He doesn’t use any of his tax-free property or incredible Vatican wealth to house the homeless. He just tells the rest of us what we need to do. During his visit to America I didn’t even see him visit any homeless encampments. He spent his time in limosines, gladhanding with VIP’s and government bureaucrats and kissing statues. I wonder if he plans to return and run for Congress in 2016? It hasn’t been the same since Teddy Kennedy left us.

      • Annie Nanimoss

“Limosines”? Really? A small black Fiat is not a limousine. Put your glasses back on old timer….

        • LFOldTimer

The black Fiat was just for show (ie. “Look. I’m just like you). Jesus would have walked amongst the homeless. The Pope is just a big poser with a coned hat and white garb. He’s more a politician than a holy man. Tell him to turn over the pedophile fugitives that he’s harboring at the Vatican. Until then I have zero respect for the man.

          • OC Leadership Sucks!

Don’t you think religion is a little “off topic”? I don’t think Jesus and Supervisor Nelson beling in the same conversation….
