With elected Auditor-Controller David Sundstrom set to leave for Sonoma County on Jan. 31, Orange County supervisors are expected to discuss a temporary appointment next week.
While Deputy Auditor-Controller Shaun Skelly will take over for the immediate future, supervisors must decide whom to appoint to the position for the rest of Sundstrom’s elected term, which lasts until 2015.
To qualify, candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria:
• A valid certificate issued by the California Board of Accountancy showing the person to be a certified public accountant or a public accountant.
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year institution with a major in accounting or its equivalent and service within the last five years in a senior fiscal management position in a county, city or other public agency; a private firm; or a nonprofit organization, dealing with similar fiscal responsibilities, for a continuous period of not less than three years.
• A certificate issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors showing the person to be a designated professional internal auditor with a minimum of 16 college semester units or their equivalent in accounting, auditing or finance.
• Experience as a county auditor, chief deputy county auditor or chief assistant county auditor for a continuous period of at least three years.
