Top issues on this week’s public meeting agendas include more budget meetings and Anaheim’s plans to buy an airplane.
Continuing ongoing discussions around the county of next year’s budgets, city leaders in Costa Mesa, Placentia, San Juan Capistrano and Seal Beach will hold public sessions.
The workshops are an opportunity for the public to hear what new priorities their city leaders may be placing on spending and for council members to tell city staff what changes they’d like made. As part of public meeting rules, cities are required to open the discussion to comments from the public during a designated time.
On Tuesday in Anaheim, the City Council will decide whether to buy a Cessna Grand Caravan airplane for the police department.
The city staff report on the plane, which costs $2.2 million plus $400,000 in equipment, says it is better suited than helicopters for certain operations other than patrolling and arresting suspects, but doesn’t specify what. Anaheim staff say the purchase would be covered by the police department’s narcotics seizure fund and the sale of a police helicopter.
