IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE POPES VISIT TO A PHILADEPHIA JAIL, THE ORANGE COUNTY CONGREGATION COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION CLERGY and COMMUNITY and FAITH LEADERS WALK TO THE ORANGE COUNTY JAIL FOR PEACE, DIGNITY AND JUSTICE. CLERGY PRAY AND WASH THE FEET OF THE FORMERLY INCARCERATED, UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANT and VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE.

The Orange County Faith community has been inspired and challenged by the visit of Pope Francis to the USA.
The visit was historic and in many ways revolutionary, we all watched on Sunday as the Pope shook hands and embraced inmates at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in Philadelphia. He challenged us by saying “society and families must share or take seriously the pain of its children and never view that pain as something normal or to be expected. He told the prisoners that he was there to share their situation and to make it his own and said “confinement was not the same as exclusion.”
In solidary with his visit, the OC faith community will confront our collective sins of greed and racism have created this sort of exclusion – especially in the way we have treated the homeless, refugees, immigrants, the incarcerated and returning citizens. We have hurt people and destroyed our communities.
The Pope Visit Echo event will take place on Wednesday 5 p.m., the faith community will gather at St. Josephs Catholic Church to pray and walk to the county jail and detention center on Civic Center to acknowledge our collective responsibility. Once, there clergy will wash the feet of those directly impacted by the issues and pray for our collective healing and transformation. The walk will then return back to the church where Father Efrain will lead us in a hominy.
