Fullerton, CA – The Sierra Club announced their endorsement of Josh Newman’s campaign for State Senate today. Support from the popular environmental organization gives Newman continued momentum in the open-seat race for California’s 29th Senate District.

In a letter announcing the endorsement, the Sierra Club’s Angeles Chapter Chair Sharon Koch stated:
“We are very pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Josh Newman. We are confident that he will continue work to protect California families’ health, air, and water and build a clean energy economy that works for California.”

Mike Bressler, a member of the Sierra Club’s Orange County Political Committee, added:
“We appreciate Mr. Newman’s work to protect open lands, and his support for legislative actions that would seek to limit the impacts of climate change and fracking on current and future generations. He is an environmental champion who will fight to protect California’s clean air, clean water, climate, and natural treasurers.”

Founded by legendary conservationist John Muir in 1892, the Sierra Club is the nation’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization. The group has more than two million members and supporters and is considered to be one of the most coveted endorsements in California politics.

California’s 29th Senate District is a Democratic-leaning swing-seat, which is home to more registered Democrats than Republicans. Newman and fellow Democrat Sukhee Kang combined to earn over 56% of the vote in June’s Primary Election.
