Asay: Rip-Rap Gets a Bad-Rap, the Railroad Rip-Rap Sand Loss Debate is a Red Herring
The Surfrider Association and California Coastal Commission are opposed to rip-rap used to protect the OCTA Railroad, as they say it causes sand loss. They want “managed retreat” as an alternative. However, rip-rap also protects homes on top of the bluffs. Only the unelected CCC with their Ideology stands in the way of implementation of other less destructive solutions such as groins.
