Tony Zarkades was born in Beverly, Massachusetts on October 14th, 1965. He loved growing up in the rugged northeast and now visits the mountains of California a few times a year. He enjoys the outdoors when camping, fishing, hunting, hiking and skiing. He played football and baseball at Salem High School and graduated as a member of the National Honors Society in 1983. He then attended UMass Amherst, graduating cum laude with his bachelor’s degree in 1987. He participated in the Marine Platoon Leaders Class program and after college he entered the Marine Corps as an officer and became a Naval Aviator in 1989. He was promoted to Captain in 1992 and went on a 6 month WestPac tour aboard the USS Okinawa LPH- 3, her last tour of duty before being decommissioned. He met his wife, Jennifer, while serving at the Tustin MCAS and they were married in 1993. Jennifer is a 6th grade teacher in Garden Grove and loves working to make the world a better place through education. Tony finished his service as a Navy flight instructor and left the Marines with an honorable discharge in 1995. From 1995 through 1998 he worked in a factory, was a commercial property manager, and owned a small ice cream shop. He had his first child, Kara, in 1996. Tony and his family moved to Orange County in 1999, became an Airline Pilot, and welcomed his second child, Tony Jr. in 2001. The Zarkades family has lived in Huntington Beach ever since and they love beautiful Orange County.
