Recall Targets Irvine Mayor Shea and Councilman Carroll

A recall petition was filed in Irvine last week against Mayor Christina Shea and Councilmember Mike Carroll alleging they are too friendly with developers. The recall is being led by Kev Abazajian, a professor at UC Irvine and former city council candidate, and Steve Berger, a lawyer who has lived in Irvine for four decades.

Irvine Approves Squishy Concept for $250 Million USA Water Polo Stadium at Great Park

City Council members voted but it’s ultimately homeowners in the Great Park neighborhood who will fund the stadium, estimated by the local developer at about $200 a month for each homeowner. Officials have apparently been privately discussing the plan for several years. Great Park developer, Five Point Holdings, is scheduled to come back with a plan for public review in February.

Veterans Day Celebration Slated for Monday in Irvine

Caleb Hyatt, commander of the city’s adopted 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine regiment, will be among the speakers at the ceremony honoring the nation’s veterans.

Irvine to Enact Stricter Smoking Regulations

Irvine City Council members are expected to tighten smoking laws to prohibit smoking in all public areas and regulate e-cigarettes, vaporizers, and marijuana products.
