Chief Kevin Baker retired quietly on May 1 after being out for more than six months on a stress leave, according to assistant city manager Chet Simmons.
The city of Westminster is vying for funds from the Orange County Transportation Authority so it can offer a free public bus connecting residential communities close to Little Saigon to major shopping centers.
Council members choose to close a $5.3 million budget deficit by raiding reserve accounts, but indicate future deficits will have to be eliminated by cutting staff and/or raising taxes.
The city’s budget deficit is $2 million more than city leaders anticipated, after a costly accounting mistake by the city’s now fired finance director came to light. Officials won’t explain the mistake and how it occurred.
