Huntington Beach Mayor Matthew Harper has won election to the coastal 74th Assembly District.

Harper bested challenger Keith Curry, a Newport Beach councilman, with 59 percent of the vote, according to the Orange County Registrar of Voters.

99 percent of precincts are reporting, according to the Registrar.

The 74th District includes much of Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Woods and Newport Beach.

Both candidates are Republicans.

Here are the raw results so far, with 90 percent of precincts reporting:

  • Matthew Harper – 43,721 votes (59.0 percent)

  • Keith Curry – 30,389 votes (41.0 percent)
