We believe that independent journalism is a critical component of an engaged and educated democracy.
Journalists in nonprofit newsrooms, like ours, dig deep to deliver in-depth reporting that engages communities, advances solutions and demands accountability.
We are fortunate to live in a place where democracy can thrive — and it can be easy to take that for granted sometimes. Journalism that speaks truth to power is the cornerstone of a healthy democracy.
Presently, the 2020 election is heating up, fake news runs rampant, social media is used to attack others all while mainstream news is focused on news as entertainment and local government goes untouched and uncovered. As news deserts continue to expand, many communities around the county are left without access to information. Information that’s backed by sources, facts and research.
That’s where you come in. We’re calling on you now to invest in democracy because Voice of OC needs your support and the time is now.
Right now we’re excited to share an opportunity to triple your donation. Now through Dec. 31 you can triple your donation (up to $1,000) through the national NewsMatch fund supporting independent journalism and a local matching fund. New monthly recurring donations are matched for the full year’s value.
- Every person who gives during NewsMatch 2019 and enters a mailing address will be sent a special-edition silver Voice of OC enamel pin.
- If you give at least $20 as a recurring monthly donation, you will receive a New York Times one-year digital subscription code.
- You can join the exclusive ambassador’s program (including invitations to private events) for $1,000 every year or $84 every month.
With your support, Voice of OC can earn up to $40,000 in matching dollars. For a nonprofit like ours, this is a big deal and will help us deliver and expand the kind of innovative and community-focused journalism you’ve come to expect from us every day. With gratitude,
Sonya Quick, Digital Editor, Voice of OC
P.S. Now is the time to stand up for journalism like ours because a healthy democracy depends on a free press. Feel as strongly about this as we do? Forward this article to someone who’s equally passionate and encourage them to invest in us.
