The annual Pacific Airshow in Huntington Beach won’t see US military aircraft this weekend – like the Airforce Thunderbirds – due to the federal shutdown, but private airplanes and military jets like the Canadian Snowbirds are still expected to perform. 

Orange County’s first veterans cemetery gained some progress this week by landing on a federal funding priority list – yet it faces a hurdle as the project landed in the middle of the pack on the list. 

Ongoing federal immigration sweeps are leaving food pantry leaders grappling with how to best serve residents afraid to go out in public – forcing some food banks and pantries to shift to deliveries. 

Over the past couple of weeks, there’s been a growing number of local elected officials weighing in on Proposition 50 – the Congressional redistricting ballot question this November – that’s largely split along a partisan divide with Democrats supporting the move and Republicans standing against it. 

There’s increasing calls on CalOptima – the county’s public health plan for the poor and needy – to release a corruption probe on disgraced former Supervisor Andrew Do, who’s serving five years in federal prison for a bribery scheme.

Questions are mounting in Santa Ana over whether or not the city overpaid the police union for health insurance, something union officials dispute. It marks another chapter of a rocky relationship between the police union and some elected officials as one councilman pushes for an audit. 

Huntington Beach finance commissioners are also struggling to get what they say is nearly $300,000 in back rent owed from the operators of the city’s Meadowlark Golf Course, with some commissioners proposing to nix the operator and find a new one. 

Laguna Hills not only began the process of switching to district elections, but the city council members also approved 180 units of senior apartments in a town with an elderly population. 

Fountain Valley is the latest OC town to consider becoming a charter city after some elected officials there said the move would give them more control over how housing is developed in the city.
