While cities throughout Orange County are grappling with bleak budget projections, Fullerton City Council members are mulling over a sales tax increase – potentially putting the question before voters next year. 

Costa Mesa’s also dealing with a shaky budget, pushing council members to consider asking voters to hike business license fees and increasing the hotel bed tax in the city. 

Disneyland workers are starting to get their back pay from the entertainment juggernaut after settling a yearslong wage theft lawsuit over whether or not Disney had to follow a voter-approved wage increase for businesses that get Anaheim subsidies.  

Fewer people are sleeping on Santa Ana’s streets – officials attribute the dip to bolstered homelessness services like transitional housing, beefed up shelter operations and helping people into substance abuse programs or mental health treatment centers.

As cities continue grappling with regulating e-bikes, Newport Beach increased penalties for unsafe riders, and Irvine city officials are considering strengthening the city’s e-bike regulations. 

Ahead of election year, three Orange County cities are looking to change their campaign finance laws – with Cypress and Orange tightening campaign finance regulations, while Aliso Viejo is bumping up the maximum individual donation amount.
