Of the nearly 300 animals currently available for adoption at Orange County Animal Care in Tustin, a handful have been waiting for homes for over a year — with many more having spent months in their kennels, ready to be adopted.

Most of the dogs who have spent the longest time at the shelter are pit bulls and huskies — dogs that oftentimes get left behind for their size, breed and perceived behavior problems.

All month long, there’s an October promotion that is waiving adoption fees for all dogs 25 pounds and up. On Oct. 24, the shelter is also hosting an adoption event where small dogs, puppies, cats and kittens will have reduced adoption fees.

Have you adopted a shelter animal because of Voice of OC’s weekly Pets of the Week article? We’d love to hear from you. Contact Angelina Hicks at ahicks@voiceofoc.org or admin@voiceofoc.org to share your experience.
