Teamsters Local 952 has paused their strike as the union is back at the negotiating table with Orange County Supervisors this morning after more than 400 public employees began picketing last week, affecting county services like landfills and the animal shelter.

While officials publicly downplayed impacts of the union’s strike for better wages and backpay, county lawyers filed a labor complaint alleging Teamsters employees blocked landfill roads that cut trash deliveries to one landfill by roughly 75%.

Voice of OC also released the last of our questionnaires to county supervisors candidates this week, asking questions about how they’d handle things like the landfill, county creeks and the shrinking coastline.

Meanwhile, Santa Ana could be the next Orange County city to stop using Flock cameras after rising resident concerns over the automatic license plate readers – a pause Fullerton officials temporarily instituted for six months.

At the same time, Santa Ana City Council members are facing questions whether a public pool ribbon cutting was a campaign event ahead of the November election as the city publicized photos of the ceremony, but the pool remains closed to the public.

About half of the candidates running for city council seats in Santa Ana showed up to a community forum organized by local community groups and moderated by Voice of OC’s Norberto Santana, Jr.  Monday sharing how they plan to respond to ICE if elected.

Anaheim City Council members are looking to overhaul parts of the Disneyland Resort district, but one councilwoman is questioning just how effective the previous taxpayer subsidies are – pointing to an ongoing structural deficit.

Irvine’s also grappling with a deficit as city council members are cutting back on city-sponsored events in an effort to tame the budget gap that could reach $40 million in less than two years.

The deficit was the top issue at an Irvine City Council debate over the weekend, with some candidates saying it’s time for the city to establish an independent auditor to get a better handle on the city budget.

Costa Mesa City Council candidates gave their thoughts on immigrant support services and affordable housing at a forum ahead of the Nov. 3 election.

The Orange County District Attorney’s controversial program that drops misdemeanors against people for submitting their DNA – known as spit and acquit – could be on its way out after the county signed a settlement that mandates the county discards large portions of the database.

Laguna Beach officials continue scrambling to save the city’s only emergency room as city council members authorized spending $500,000 to study how to best save the facility.

A host of Dana Point residents are rallying to save scores of pine trees at Lantern Bay Park after park renovation plans from the nearby Marriot Hotel called for removing the trees as part of an overhaul agreement with the city for letting the hotel replace a waterline on park property.
