Orange County is getting at least one new supervisor tonight as Buena Park Mayor Connor Traut and OC Board of Education Trustee Tim Shaw face off for a vacant seat on the board of supervisors.

Traut, a Democrat, was in the lead with 52% of the vote as of 8:05 p.m., with Shaw, a Republican, trailing at around 48% of the vote.

So far, nearly 84,000 votes have been counted, with a 4,400 difference between the two.

The fourth district stretches across the northern edge of Orange County, including cities such as Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, La Habra, Fullerton, Placentia and Stanton.

Traut heavily out fundraised Shaw throughout the race, with strong spending from the Association of OC Deputy Sheriffs and other county unions spending heavily on advertising to support his candidacy.

Over 40% of the registered voters in the district are Democrats, compared to just under 30% registering as Republicans, along with another 24% that registered as no party preference voters.
