OCTA to Offer Free OC Bus Rides on Tuesday, Feb. 4
OC Bus will be free to passengers on Tuesday, Feb. 4 – Transit Equity Day, in honor of the birthday of civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks
ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority on Tuesday, Feb. 4 will offer free rides on OC Bus all day in honor of Transit Equity Day.
Nationally, Transit Equity Day has been held each year since 2018 to commemorate the birthday of Rosa Parks, who in 1955 refused to give up her seat on the bus to white riders. Her actions that day ultimately led to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that segregation on public transit was unconstitutional.
“OCTA is committed to offering equitable public transportation that benefits all of Orange County,” said OCTA Chair Doug Chaffee, also the county’s Fourth District Supervisor. “We are offering these free rides to celebrate and honor the legacy of Rosa Parks on Transit Equity Day.”

Equity is among the overarching goals in OCTA’s recently released Board and CEO Initiatives for 2025, which also calls for working toward a balanced, resilient and sustainable transportation system for all of Orange County.
Free rides on Feb. 4 apply to OC Bus and no ticket is necessary to travel. Metrolink is also providing free rides on that day.
