Sarsaparilla has been at the shelter for about two weeks after coming in as a stray. Staff descriptions say she may be shy when meeting new people, but she opens up in the right environment.

Descriptions say she thrives best with slow introductions. Once she gets comfortable, Sarsaparilla enjoys long walks and lots of pets, staff note.

Free Pet Adoption Expo in Huntington Beach

Orange County residents can check out more animals from OC Animal Care during a free Pet Adoption Expo planned for April 25 in Huntington Beach’s Central Park.

Leaders from the county and Huntington Beach are teaming up to provide free pet adoptions alongside opportunities for discounted veterinary services from two dozen vendors.

The event is expected to feature low-cost services for things like dog and cat vaccinations, deworming, nail trimming, microchipping and prescription flea control.

Vendors are also expected to offer a $15 rabies vaccine at the adoption expo and coupons for $50 off certain local spay and neuter services.

Representatives from OC Animal Care are also expected to attend the event with pets available for adoption. No appointments are required, and everyone is welcome for this event. It’s scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m.

OC Animal Care, the county-run animal shelter in Tustin, is open daily for adoption visits from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. During this time, visitors can freely walk through the kennel areas to view the available animals.
