With 41 deaths among people “without fixed abode” in August, 328 for the year so far, a full 5.7% of the County’s beginning of the year homeless population (by the PIT Count reported to be 5718) is now dead. It has been reported that $1.4 billion is being spent annually in OC on homelessness, yet we continue to have families with small kids and seniors with disabilities being asked to stay on the street while the County takes its time to process them and then search for options to shelter or house them. How is any of this possible?
