PBS SoCal’s David Nazar filed this update Thursday on his investigation into an alleged kickback scheme involving a Laguna Hills-based sports apparel and equipment company and high school coaches throughout Southern California.

As Nazar reported last week in Voice of OC, an Irvine couple who took over Lapes Athletic Team Sales in 2008 claim to have discovered boxes of records kept by previous owner, Bill Lapes, that reveal a secret slush fund that paid kickbacks to coaches.

Since his original report, Nazar has found that coaches from more than 60 schools in Southern California were involved.
