Mark Refowitz has been appointed interim director of the Orange County Health Care Services Agency, a position that has been vacant since David Riley retired from the job in December.

According to an internal announcement from county CEO Tom Mauk, Refowitz’ appointment became effective Tuesday, just in time for Refowitz to attend his first CalOptima meeting two days later.

Refowitz has been director of Behavioral Health Services within the Health Care Agency since 2004. He will lead the agency while the county seeks a permanent replacement for Riley.
