This week on PBS SoCaL, we delve into the dramatic scene in Irvine this week, where hundreds showed up to a City Council meeting to weigh in on a new deal to build the Great Park.
The proposal would have FivePoint build 65 percent of the park, including a massive sports facility, but uncertainty over the city’s financial responsibilities and liabilities led to a delay of the decision.
It’s set to come back to the City Council on Nov. 26.
We also discuss:
- The shutting down of a UC Irvine research center after its staff was found to be mishandling radioactive materials.
- City leaders in Orange weighing whether to ask the DA’s office to cover millions in legal fees for a civil rights lawsuit they both lost.
Voice of OC’s weekly news segments are broadcast on PBS SoCaL Wednesdays and Fridays at 5 p.m.
