Garden Grove city council members are considering banning the sale of animals from large-scale commercial breeders in city pet stores.

Huntington Beach currently has an ordinance prohibiting pet stores from selling dogs and cats from such commercial breeders, often known as puppy mills or kitten factories. Stores can only sell animals obtained from a shelter, humane society or rescue organization, according to the ordinance.

Aliso Viejo and the city of Glendale also have similar ordinances, according to a city staff report.

Tuesday’s city council meeting begins at 6:30 pm.
