AN ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION DETERMINED TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE RECENT CHRISTMAS TREE FIRE AT SOUTH COAST PLAZA
COSTA MESA, CA — Costa Mesa fire investigators have determined the preliminary origin and cause of the Christmas tree fire that occurred in the early morning hours of Dec. 14, 2015 to be an unspecified electrical malfunction associated with the lighting system for the tree.
Based on the all of the information obtained including a thorough scene examination, witness interviews and review of surveillance video the fire originated within the top half section of the tree.
The fire investigation team will finalize the report by the end of the week.
