POLITICS AS USUAL: KIM DISTORTS TRUTH, FAILS TO DELIVER
While Teacher Quirk-Silva Pushes for Open, Accountable Gov’t.
FULLERTON, CA – Trounced in June’s primary election, Republican career politician Young Kim is turning to underhanded tactics that distort the facts in order to talk about anything other than her record of failing to deliver for Orange County families as a member of California’s legislature.
Kim’s latest distortion of Quirk-Silva’s record centers around legislation requiring bills be in print and online for 72 hours to allow greater public scrutiny. Quirk-Silva’s sole vote on the legislation opposed exempting the open government legislation from the existing open government process, a procedural vote that called for suspending legislative rules.
“Talk about grasping at straws?! The irony of Kim twisting a procedural vote upholding the rules in order to claim she’s for greater openness would be funny if it weren’t so sad,” said Quirk-Silva spokesperson Matt Reilly. “If career politician Young Kim is so dedicated to openness in government, why won’t she release her tax returns? It’s been 73 days since Sharon released hers. Does Kim have something to hide?
“To deflect from the question, she’s turning to political dirty tricks and running away from the issues,” added Reilly. “From the 3-day print rule to Proposition 13, Young Kim is distorting issues where both candidates agree rather than talking about her own failed record.”
As part of her commitment to transparency, Quirk-Silva released her tax returns on Tax Day this year, information Kim has repeatedly refused to provide voters. While in the Legislature, Quirk-Silva also wrote the law requiring elected officials to disclose their economic interests online, giving regular citizens greater access to these reports.
The 65th Assembly District includes Buena Park, Cypress, Fullerton, La Palma, Stanton and most of West Anaheim.
