Press Release

HUNTINGTON BEACH (November 16, 2016) – The Ocean View School District and Rainbow Environmental Services are pleased to jointly announce that all pending litigation has been settled.

Rainbow Environmental Services, operated by Republic Services, will be funding improvements to its transfer station, including a new 45,000 square-foot building, renovations to enclose existing buildings and facilities, and installation of state-of-the-art ventilation and filtration measures. When the construction is completed, Rainbow’s operations will be conducted in enclosed structures, greatly reducing the potential for noise and odor impacts on the neighboring Oak View schools. Rainbow will also fund the construction of a multi-purpose building to be built at the Oak View Schools, and has agreed not to expand its operations at the adjacent “Historic Wintersburg” property.

“I am pleased to say that the future looks really bright for the Oak View schools and the surrounding Oak View community,” said Gina Clayton-Tarvin, President of the Board of Trustees for the Ocean View School District. “The District has achieved its goal of obtaining enclosed transfer facilities and additional steps to minimize the impacts on our students, teachers, administrators and staff. Without Republic Services, this settlement never would have happened. After purchasing the Rainbow Transfer Station, Republic heard the concerns from the Oak View community, and is taking these steps to address the concerns. I look forward to a new positive relationship with the facility moving forward.”

Republic Services Market Vice President Dave Hauser said, “We are making a significant investment in the Oak View community, and restoring a strong partnership with the Ocean View School District. Everything we are doing will improve the surrounding environment for the people who live and work near the Oak View schools.”
