Red vs. blue. Right vs. left. Republican vs. Democrat. Politicians, consultants, analysts and commentators all talking over each other — getting louder and louder, uglier and uglier. Hours are spent over things that don’t really matter: which side is getting bought out by lobbyists (hint, it’s everyone), and who said what about so and so (character attacks are SO 2018).

So what really matters to your quality of life?

“The only real radicalism in our time will come as it always has — from people who insist on thinking for themselves and who reject party-mindedness.”

– Christopher Hitchens, author

Think what might happen if  just a trickle of the hundreds of millions spent on hit mail and attack ads was diverted to real news with real facts.

Voice of OC isn’t owned by a hedge fund, a media mogul or a special interest. We have hundreds of small donors and a few foundations that support local journalism and understand that our newsroom is independent.

More than 200 small newsrooms across the country are using the same model – local, nonprofit news that holds local governments accountable and gives communities the story straight. It is old fashioned gum shoe reporting by real reporters.

We depend on your financial support to continue to cut through the partisan bickering.

Now through December 31 is our biggest annual fundraising effort.  Your donation will be doubled up to $1,000 by several journalism foundations. Donors over $240 (or $20/month pledge) will also receive a free 1-year subscription to the New York Times.

Is the truth worth $20 a month or more to you? If you care about local issues, please consider supporting Voice of OC.  We will help you keep tabs on the people you elect.
