Huntington Beach residents voted on three different measures in the March 5 primary election — including a proposed voter ID law, dubbed Measure A.

In addition to showing a government-issued ID at in-person voting booths, the measure would also call for city officials to monitor ballot drop boxes.

At the end of election night, 54% of voters cast “Yes” ballots on the voting ID measure, according to results from the OC Registrar of Voters at the end of Tuesday night.

A total of 36,609 votes have been counted for Measure A, with 46% of voters having cast a “No” vote.

If the measure passes, it remains unclear if the city would have to run its own elections moving forward instead of the Orange County Registrar of Voters.

Measure B would change the rules for which flags are allowed to be flown on city flag poles. If passed, it would limit the city to only fly the U.S. flag, the city flag, the prisoner of war flag, Olympic flags and flags for government bodies like the state, city and military.

It would prevent the city from flying any other flags, including the Pride flag.

58% of voters cast “Yes” ballots, according to results from the OC Registrar of Voters at the end of election night.

A total of 36,607 votes have been tallied for Measure B so far. At the end of election night —  42% have voted “No” in this race.

Measure C would create a host of changes in how the city operates. That includes moving to a two-year budget instead of an annual budget. It would also allow the mayor to cancel city council meetings unilaterally.

53% of voters cast “No” ballots, according to results from the OC Registrar of Voters at the end of election night.

A total of 36,020 votes have been counted for Measure C so far, and 47% of those ballots have been “Yes” votes.

These measures were all placed on the ballot by the city council’s new Republican majority. It’s the first time Huntington Beach residents were able to weigh in on the new council majority’s proposals through a citywide vote.
