Dozens of Kittens Available at OC Animal Care

As Orange County heats up and summer approaches, more kittens are being born on the street — a time commonly referred to as “kitten season.”

OC Animal Care is overflowing with cats. Currently, the county-run shelter has more cats and kittens available for adoption than dogs, a rare occurrence at the facility that doesn’t accept healthy, stray cats.

More than 100 cats from multiple investigation cases, along with 100-plus orphaned kittens, have entered the shelter in recent weeks. Many of these kittens need foster homes or are ready to be adopted.

To get more cats adopted, shelter leaders are bringing back the Sittin’ With Kittens event every Saturday starting tomorrow.

At this weekly adoption event, visitors can meet multiple litters of kittens that were formerly in foster care and now ready for adoption. This event is held on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the shelter’s primary Tustin location. No appointment is needed.

California’s Adopt-A-Pet Day is also coming up on June 6. On this day, all adoption fees will be covered by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at Orange County’s animal shelter.

The event at OC Animal Care will last from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 6, and it will have cats, dogs and rabbits that are already spayed/neutered and microchipped and ready to head to a new home. It’s also expected to feature food trucks and resource booths.

OC Animal Care, the county-run animal shelter in Tustin, is open daily for adoption visits from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. During this time, visitors can freely walk through the kennel areas to view the available animals.

To schedule an adoption visit, call the main line at (714) 935-6848 and mention the animal ID number for any specific pet you might be interested in.
