The controversial renovation of the city’s tennis center had been yanked from the budget after Latino activists and the mayor were outraged that $6.4 million was dedicated to the project. But a study session last week revealed it is actually still in the plan.
The council unanimously approved a new ordinance that bans setting up tents and storing personal property at city parks, a move that some say will prevent crime and others call the criminalization of homelessness.
The renovation was dropped after outrage from the mayor and Latino residents.
Library staffers say the city will cut almost one-fifth of its
full-time library employees. City officials won’t give
specifics.
City was supposed to open its new library to the public and
begin renovations to an adjacent park. Neither has happened.
