California Inspector General Laura Chick will be looking into the state’s $42 billion high-speed rail program in the wake of a highly critical audit  by California State Auditor Elaine M. Howle.

The request for a review by Chick came from High-Speed Rail Authority Chairman (and Anaheim Mayor) Curt Pringle as part of his promised efforts to make sure the rail authority corrects the problems found by the audit.

Chick was appointed Inspector General last year by Schwarzenegger to monitor the $50 billion in stimulus funds for all kinds of projects that the state expects to receive.

She is a former Los Angeles city controller known for her determination to track fraud and financial mismanagement in government spending. Her web site spells out her goals. “My mission is to DETER, DETECT and DISCLOSE any fraud, waste and abuse of these precious dollars.”
