The Irvine city clerk’s office provided me with the financial disclosure statement for the slate mailer committee Voter Assistance Guide this afternoon, ending a saga to find what should have been an easily retrievable document.

The quest to find the disclosure statement turned into a frustrating shell game, with both city and state officials saying the other is responsible for keeping the statement.

Update: Irvine Public Information Officer Craig Reem sent me an email today saying that the city clerk’s office confirmed with the state’s Fair Political Practices Commission that the committee filed with the county and the state, which is what they were required to do. The committee was not required to file with the city, according to the email.

In any event, now that I have the document I can get busy finding out who’s contributed to this year’s committee. Check back later for the details.
