Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido confirmed today that City Attorney Joe Fletcher is retiring, putting an end to a 14-year stint as the city’s top legal counsel.

Voice of OC reported Thursday on the rumor that Fletcher might be leaving. Then, on Friday, the Santa Ana City Council held a special closed session to discuss Fletcher’s performance.

Fletcher’s leaving comes a few months after the controversial Station District vote, which saw council members vote on a development project after and before taking contributions from developers and real-estate brokers involved in the project.

At the time, Councilman Sal Tinajero expressed frustration with city staffers for allowing the vote to occur, saying it was their “full-time job” to keep the council in check.

Fletcher hasn’t returned repeated calls for comment.
