The Anaheim City Council Tuesday night appointed Bob Wingenroth, the city finance director, as interim city manager. The vote was 4-1 with Councilwoman Kris Murray dissenting.

Council members also unanimously voted to conduct a national search for the next city manager.

The appointment follows the resignation of City Manager Thomas Wood, effective Dec. 8.

Wingenroth was hired in December last year. He worked as Huntington Beach’s finance director between 2009 and 2010, according to the city’s website, and has 30 years of experience in local government.

Murray declined to comment when asked about her vote. Sources close to City Hall said that she was the only council member to oppose asking Wood to resign and that her votes generally reflect the feelings of the business community and Curt Pringle, who served as mayor between 2002 and 2010.

Mayor Tom Tait and other council members couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
