Incumbent Allan Mansoor easily bested his rivals in the 74th Assembly District, winning more than 43 percent of the vote despite being outspent by Newport Beach City Councilwoman Leslie Daigle, who finished a distant third place with just under 24 percent of the vote.
Local realtor Bob Rush, who ran as a Democrat, finished second to Mansoor with just over 33 percent.
Rush will challenge Mansoor in November.
Throughout the campaign, Mansoor painted himself as a true conservative battling against Democratic and labor interests in Sacramento.
Daigle criticized Mansoor for his lack of effectiveness in Sacramento and contrasted the record from his home city of Costa Mesa, where there has been strife connected to budget cuts, and her city of Newport Beach, where cuts have been negotiated without issue.
Rush criticized both as career politicians and cast himself as an independent voice despite running as a Democrat.
