Top issues on this week’s public meeting agendas include a dozen cities planning to adopt budgets and Costa Mesa considering outsourcing printing services to the county.
Budget season kicks into high gear this week, with 12 cities scheduled to approve budgets for the 2012-13 fiscal year. Budgets set for adoption include those in Costa Mesa, San Clemente, Lake Forest, Laguna Beach, Placentia, Brea, San Juan Capistrano, Los Alamitos, Fountain Valley, La Habra, La Palma and Laguna Niguel.
Also, Anaheim, Tustin, Yorba Linda and Laguna Woods will hold public discussions of their upcoming budgets, with opportunities for public comment.
And in Costa Mesa, the city staff is recommending that the City Council approve a contract to outsource the city’s printing services to the county and eliminate a printer operator position in October.
The Costa Mesa council this week will also consider canceling the city’s contract with auditing firm Mayer Hoffman McCann after the company was fined $350,000 and placed on two years’ probation for overlooking financial problems in the city of Bell.

Orange County Board of Supervisors, Tuesday, June 19, at 9:30 p.m.
- Approval of a $2-million, five-year contract with Specialized Elevator Corp. for elevator maintenance and repair in sheriff-operated jails.
- Approval of a $44-million, 18-month contract with MedImpact Healthcare Solutions for pharmacy benefit management. The current contractor, RxAmerica, “has essentially failed to meet the terms of their existing contract and is making unacceptable contractual demands before they will agree to extend their existing contract,” according to OC Health Care Agency staff.
- Adoption of an ordinance allowing the OC Animal Care director to declare a dog “potentially dangerous or vicious” and ultimately impose requirements like maintaining liability insurance and muzzling the dog when off the owner’s property. Violations would be a misdemeanor.
