(Fullerton, CA) – Valencia Park School is pleased to announce that the IAM Learning and Young Scholars has been awarded an Apple Distinguished Program for 2015-2017. This honor is given to schools for nationwide recognition as an exemplary learning environment. The Apple Distinguished Program designation is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate a consistent vision of exemplary learning environments.
The IAM Learning and Young Scholars program was born in 2010 when 600 iPod Touch devices were purchased to infuse technology into daily live of Valencia Park students.
Now in year six of IAM Learning, Valencia Park boasts a 1:1 iPad program in all 23 classrooms along with a take home program in grades 5th and 6th. Teachers have undergone rigorous training in technology and Direct Interactive Instruction by focusing on clear and measurable learning objectives.
Valencia Park also continues to increase student reading fluency through the Young Scholars After School Reading Fluency Program, which combines the use of iOS devices and a research-based reading fluency curriculum. Now a part of a broader community, Valencia Park teachers have shared expertise at both the state and national levels by presenting at the Computer Using Educators (CUE) conference, the International Society forTechnology in Education (ISTE) conference, and iPad Palooza. Tour groups have come from as far as Hawaii, New Zealand, and China to learn from Valencia Park staff and see student technology engagement in action.
“We look forward to our continued journey to explore how Apple technology, visionary leadership and powerful teaching can transform the way teachers teach and students learn,” Cheryl Lee, Development Executive at Apple Education.
