STEAM FOCUS COMING TO LAKE VIEW FOR FALL 2016 GRAND REOPENING
Parents Invited to Attend Info Meetings Next Week Before Intradistrict Transfer Deadline, April 29
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA, April 21, 2016– The Ocean View School District is eager to share the new Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) educational experience currently in development for the reopening of Lake View Elementary School this September. All students attending Lake View will participate in an engaging STEAM-focused curriculum. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend one of three Parent Information Meetings led by newly- appointed Lake View Principal, Jamie Goodwyn, along with the District Educational Services support team. Attendees will receive detailed information about the development and design of this exciting program being launched at Lake View. Parents will gain an understanding of:
- What STEAM is and what STEAM is not.
- What a typical day looks like, sounds like, and feels like for students in a STEAM-focused learning environment.
- What actual learning experiences are as parents will participate in a mini-lesson.
- How to request your child attend Lake View in the fall.
In addition, OVSD is eager to share plans for how students and staff will have opportunities throughout the year to showcase their innovative work through “STEAM Family Extravaganzas” each trimester.
The three Parent Information meetings are scheduled in the District Office Board Room (Building A):
1. Monday, April 25, 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.
2. Monday, April 25, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
3. Wednesday, April 27, 5:00to 6:00 p.m.
In order to permit Ocean View families to consider a transfer from their school of residence into Lake View or any other OVSD school, the Board of Trustees has approved reopening the Intradistrict Transfer deadline from now until Friday, April 29, 2016. Interdistrict Transfers are also welcome.
Up-to-date information about the STEAM program at Lake View will be posted on District and Lake View websites and through official OVSD social media, as well as by mail and phone. Interested families are encouraged to bookmark the OVSD and Lake View website links to easily access this information and other news about the school’s grand reopening this September.
