Coast Community College District Board President David Grant Endorses Vong Xavier Nguyen for Coast Community College District, Area 2

“When I endorse someone, it is because I know they are best fit for that position,” said Trustee Grant. “I have never met someone as passionate for our community colleges as Vong Nguyen and his experience as a former student gives us someone on board that can truly relate to our students. I know Mr. Nguyen will represent Area 2 well, especially since it is the district’s only majority Asian area.”

Trustee David Grant began his career with the Coast Community College District as an administrator at Orange Coast College. He dedicated 34 years to this role, before being appointed Orange Coast College’s fifth president from 1989 until his retirement in 1995. He was elected to the Coast Community College District Board of Trustees in 2010 and was re-elected in 2014.

“I am honored to have President Grant’s endorsement,” Nguyen said. “Trustee Grant and I understand the importance of underrepresented minorities in positions of leadership and in education, so I know we will work together to empower their success.”

Vong Xavier Nguyen began his higher education career at Golden West College in the Coast Community College District, prior to transferring in less than one year and ultimately graduating from the University of Southern California with Federal Honors. For the 2014-2015 academic year, Mr. Nguyen served as President of Coastline Community College’s Student Government, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA at Orange Coast College. He currently works as a Special Education Teacher, while running an Educational Consulting Group to aid high school and community college students apply to institutions of higher education.
