At a time when arts funding is shrinking and cultural histories are contested nationwide, the city has an opportunity to protect murals like Chicano Gothic, honor artists like Emigdio Vazquez, and transform Santa Ana into California’s open-air museum.

And yet, its solution has been to try to “make an example” of the Centro Cultural de Mexico for not enthusiastically expelling the 40 homeless people who had taken refuge there from its property. Shame, evil, evil shame.
