Voice of OC will moderate an Anaheim City Council candidates forum Tuesday at 6 p.m. for residents in the Anna Drive neighborhood that witnessed two officer-involved shootings earlier this year.

Numerous neighborhood residents rallied at a City Council meeting in July after the shootings, but most were shut out from council chambers, which eventually triggered a riot.

The event also has triggered a fundamental questioning of how well city leaders have treated local neighborhoods given the economic development of the Disney resort district.

Nowadays there is expanded talk of establishing council districts as well as a police review commission. A host of other ideas are aimed at spurring more participation among the city’s Latino residents.

Los Amigos of Orange County helped local residents organize tonight’s forum, inviting all candidates seeking election to the City Council this November.

Neighborhood children also circulated petitions urging the city to close streets for the forum.

Voice of OC Editor-in-Chief Norberto Santana Jr. will moderate the candidates forum and will also channel residents’ questions to candidates from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
