A state bill AB 1479 – up for vote on Friday – would create a fine for agencies that grossly violate California’s Public Records Act. A recent successful Voice of OC lawsuit against the County of Orange, appealing denied public records about an evangelist handcuffed by a county supervisor while armed, is a prime test case for the fine.
Each member of the Board of Suprvisors will select one of the ethics commissioners. How and why each supervisor decides who to select will not be public, but a majority of the full board will confirm the selections in an open meeting.
Santa Ana Unified School District Superintendent Stefanie P. Phillips reports that students in Santa Ana have achieved a significant increase of 11.5% in graduation rates over the last seven years, surpassing the State and County average with 91.6% of the District’s high school seniors graduating with their diploma and a direct pathway to college.
