Supervisors Give Final Approval to Bus Terminal Purchase

It’s widely assumed the abandoned terminal adjacent to the downtown Santa Ana Civic Center will be turned into a homeless shelter and service center. But supervisors have yet to unveil any concrete plans.

Not many Civic Center homeless people stayed at the downtown bus terminal, which officials opened over the weekend as a shelter for El Niño rain storms. But those who did stay were grateful.

In closed session Tuesday, Orange County supervisors will talk about buying abandoned bus terminal in the Civic Center that could be used to provide shelter and outreach for homeless people. Supervisors are also set to discuss a plan for protecting people from expected El Niño storms.

Giving Tuesday is the nationwide day set aside to remind people to support nonprofits. But when people think of organizations in need they often think of causes such as those supporting animals, veterans, children, arts and social programs. So why give to news?
