County auditors haven’t checked the assessor’s computer systems for security vulnerabilities since at least 1995 – if ever, officials said this week.
Peter Hughes, who has held the job for 16 years, oversaw audits that impacted several top Orange County government officials.
The unanimous vote also moves management of the county’s fraud hotline from the internal audit office to the County Counsel’s office.
County supervisors see the move as payback for a report by the county’s internal auditor, which found that a restricted fund at the county’s clerk-recorder’s office was badly mismanaged under Tom Daly’s tenure before he took office in the Assembly in late 2012.
Of the nearly a dozen candidates for the position, no one will face tougher questioning than Renee Ramirez.
After investigation, county officials conclude that all sexual harassment and favoritism allegations against Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly are unfounded.
County Waste and Recycling Director Mike Giancola operated an illegal salvage scam at the landfills, according to lawsuit filed by former county Human Resources manager.
Voice of OC has obtained the original report that lit the fuse behind the Bustamante sex crime scandal. Female workers at the county don’t trust county Human Resources and want Attorney General Kamala Harris to step in.
Director Jess Carbajal is put on administrative leave while others speak of “scummy behavior” and one executive quits in disgust.
Jess Carbajal is one of the high-ranking county officials who allegedly did not take appropriate action when sexual harassment complaints against Carlos Bustamante emerged.
