Santa Ana Media Summit: Changing the Narrative
At the Santa Ana Media Summit: Changing the Narrative, our community will explore how the media covers Santa Ana and what we can all do to share our stories. The Santa Ana Media Summit: Changing the Narrative will bring together local print, radio, blog and social media reporters, editors and experts who will introduce community and business attendees to media and public relations topics such as How to Get Press Coverage, Latino Media, and how topics like crime and gentrification impact the narratives about Santa Ana and what we can do about it. The Media Summit will occur Wednesday, April 13, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Santa Ana’s Downtown Artist’s Village, which will open historic buildings and art spaces as a multi-venue downtown campus.

OC Streetcar Moves Closer to Design and Construction
OCTA Board approves hiring consultant for station design and seeks construction management firm for Santa Ana/Garden Grove project
ORANGE – Plans for Orange County’s first modern streetcar took several important steps forward this week when the OCTA Board of Directors approved a series of actions to help facilitate the design and construction of the project. At its meeting on Monday, the actions of the Orange County Transportation Authority board, included:

Selecting RNL Interplan as the firm to complete the conceptual design of each of the OC Streetcars station stops. A team of architects and urban designers will work with the community to plan a suitable design for each of the stops along the route.

Significant Milestone Reached in I-405 Project
Set for completion in 2022, improvements will reduce travel times by adding one regular lane in each direction, along with express toll lanes 
ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority is seeking proposals from a shortlist of firms for the design and construction of the I-405 Improvement Project, an important step toward building a better freeway that will improve travel times for everybody driving the corridor between Costa Mesa and the Los Angeles County line. The OCTA Board of Directors at its Monday meeting unanimously approved the criteria for selecting a firm to design and build the freeway improvements, and it approved issuing the final request for proposals. The $1.7 billion project will improve commute times on the San Diego Freeway (I-405) from the SR-73 to the I-605, an area traveled by more than 370,000 vehicles a day, making it the busiest stretch of highway in the nation.

Comedian Featured on ‘Conan’ to Perform at Arab American Heritage Gala

Arab American comedian Sammy Obeid has been confirmed to perform at the Arab American CIvic Council’s first annual Arab American Heritage Gala, which will be held on Sunday, April 24 at the Pacific Hills Banquet Hall in Laguna Hills. Obeid, born in Oakland, California, is of Lebanese and Palestinian descent. He is best known for his 1,001 day streak of consecutive comedy performances.
