OCTA’s Transit General Manager Honored at COMTO’s FirstWomen Leaders Awards Ceremony
Beth McCormick, of Mission Viejo, receives Outstanding Transportation Executive Leadership Award
ORANGE – The Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) this week honored OCTA’s Beth McCormick with the Outstanding Transportation Executive Leadership Award at the group’s inaugural Women Leaders of Southern California Transportation Awards ceremony. McCormick, a Mission Viejo resident, is the General Manager of the Orange County Transportation Authority’s Transit division, the largest division at OCTA with five operating bases and almost 800 vehicles. McCormick has worked at OCTA since 1993 and has more than 30 years of transportation experience.

Orange County, California (March 19, 2016) — The California Republican Assembly has endorsed Deborah Pauly for the 68th Assembly District race at Saturday morning’s county-wide endorsing convention held at the Republican satellite headquarters in Stanton. “I am humbled, honored and thankful to be endorsed by one of the state’s premiere conservative grassroots organizations,” said Pauly. “This is a voice of The People, so their vote of confidence in my principled leadership carries with it great responsibility.”

“Achieving the two-thirds threshold of all voting delegates in the first round is a huge triumph for our campaign because there were five Republicans being considered who could have split the vote for this coveted endorsement,” said Zachary Collins, Executive Assistant to the Pauly Campaign.

Improvements on 91 Freeway Open to Drivers
A six-mile stretch between State Route 57 and Interstate 5 gets new general-purpose and auxiliary lanes, widened bridges and ramps  
ORANGE – Drivers traveling westbound on the Riverside Freeway (SR-91) between the Orange Freeway (SR-57) and the Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) will experience more efficient travel times with the completion of improvements to the six-mile stretch of freeway, which fully opened as of Thursday morning. The improvements, led by the Orange County Transportation Authority and Caltrans, include four miles of new general-purpose lane in the westbound direction and auxiliary lanes that allow traffic to more smoothly enter and exit the freeway. The project, completed by construction contractor C.C. Myers, also included widening seven bridges that span the 91 freeway and reconstructing and repaving 10 on- and off-ramps to allow cars to more safely and efficiently enter and exit the freeway.

Santa Ana College’s Fashion Design and Jewelry programs have combined to present a first-ever exhibit entitled “Crossing Paths: Art and Design” to showcase the creation of original textile prints with coordinated jewelry designed and produced by Santa Ana College (SAC) art students. The one-month exhibit will kick off with a fashion show (featuring Santa Ana College students) in conjunction with an opening reception. Curated by SAC assistant professor of fashion design Kyla Benson and SAC art instructor Jennifer Monroe, the exhibit has creative support from Joshua Christensen, Santa Ana College fashion instructor and contestant in season 9 of Project Runway.

LEADING COMMUNITY ADVOCACY GROUPS UNITE TO SUPPORT GARDEN GROVE CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT PROPOSAL
Garden Grove, California – In a historic agreement, community leaders in the Vietnamese and Latino communities have jointly supported a Garden Grove City Council district map proposal submitted by Garden Grove resident Kim Nguyen. The Kim Nguyen Map arose from a settlement by City Council of a 2015 voting rights complaint by Garden Grove resident Rickk Montoya. Final settlement requires Garden Grove City Council grow from 4 to 6 district representatives, and a Mayor elected at-large.
