Yet another 46 people died “without fixed abode” in OC in February. This ties the record set only last month, January, and with three less days. In 2019 and 2020 only 20 died in February, so the death rate has more than doubled in these past few years. There are actions that could be done. We could be inspired by the response of the nations bordering Ukraine which have put roofs over the heads millions of refugees in only a few weeks. But also in the absence here of action, the County’s homeless are going to need to use the agency that they have to protect themselves on their own. Help may come, but honestly, it may not, or too late.
